Android users today receive a new Chrome update that gives them even more privacy. Indeed, the latter brings the possibility of requesting a fingerprint scan to open an already started private browsing instance. Therefore, only the owner of the smartphone will be able to access these secret tabs.

Google is constantly working to improve its browser in order to maintain its market leading position. And while not all updates may be true revolutions, some new features are worth seeing. Today in particular, the Mountain View company has started the deployment of a new feature on Android, called “Unlock Incognito”.

As the name suggests, this feature allows you to block access to private browsing. Specifically, it allows you to require the user to scan their fingerprints to view the private tabs already open in an instance. This way, another indiscreet user will not be able to access this private window without the smartphone owner’s knowledge.

To activate this option, just go to the Chrome settings, in the section Privacy and security. Activation obviously requires the user to verify their identity with a scan of their fingerprints or validation of their PIN code. You must be updated to Chrome 109 in order to use it.

Google says the feature is available to all Android users. As of this writing, however, we haven’t been able to test it ourselves in writing, suggesting that it hasn’t found its way to France yet. However, there is a way to take advantage of it while it’s available.

To do this, simply activate the corresponding flag by copying and pasting this URL into the search bar: chrome://flags/#incognito-reauthentication-for-android. You will then have access to the feature pending the official update.
