Uber unveiled a new feature for Uber Eats, its food delivery service, on Jan. 26. With “View as Delivery Worker”US users will be able to get more transparency about the personal information shared with their carriers. One more step to ensure the protection of people using the services of the American company.
An additional level of transparency
” Your courier sees only what it needs to deliver your order is the motto proposed by Uber during the presentation of its new feature. During a race, users will have the option to know which personal data is shared with your courier in real time.
When ordering, the courier only has access to the approximate delivery location. During transportation, can get initial full name and exact location, while having access to customer feedback. Finally, once the delivery has been made, the place remains visible anonymouslywithout house and/or house number.
To reassure its users, Uber accurate that those in charge of this service will never have access to the following elements :
- Information on means of payment;
- The phone number, automatically hidden when calling or sending an SMS from the application;
- The evaluation given to the courier;
- Profile picture ;
- The surname apart from the initial.
The company points out, however, that when delivering alcohol, the surname is visible on the customer’s identity cardwhen the bellboy verifies the age of majority, for this purpose the latter will have to scan the identity document.
Uber detects that the carrier no longer has access to this information once the order has been validated and the scan is deleted after 72 hours. Similarly, when choosing the ‘In front of the door’ option, the delivery man is asked to photograph the food on the landing. This it is never saved and automatically deleted as soon as the application is closed. Currently, the functionality it is only available in Canada and the United States.
