Concerned about the software support of its phones, Fairphone offers a long android update tracker on its phones. The Fairphone 4 is starting to run Android 12.
Launched in October 2021, the Fairphone 4 should have a following for a few more years. But for now, the easily repairable phone comes with a new version of its operating system.
A deployment spread over several weeks
The Fairphone 4 currently runs Android 12. A slight delay from the release schedule for Google’s OS releases as the company has already released Android 13 since last summer.
The Dutch company therefore seems to be taking the time to perfect the operating system of its phones, which also avoids wiping out the first bugs that arrive on recent versions of the OS as a general rule.
The rollout of Android 12 has begun and will take place over several weeks. The update could arrive a little later in the case of some French operators according to Fairphone, but without indicating which ones are affected. Either way, a notification will appear on your phone when the update is available.
Fairphone 3 users will get an Android update this year, but the company hasn’t announced a date yet.
Fundraising to improve customer follow-up
Fairphone has raised 49 million euros and this will allow it in particular to accelerate its strategy and above all its customer service. So the upcoming Android updates may come much faster in the future.
As a reminder, Fairphone 2 has had 7 years of software tracking and received Android 10 last year. If the brand continues this momentum for the current model, it could be that the follow-up goes all the way to 2028, enough to still benefit from some Android versions.
