Although it has bad press and the feedback of some viewers is not very kind to it, Asterix & Obelix The Middle Empire signs the best opening of a French film for 10 years. It is Pathé, the producer, who unveils the first numbers with 463,026 spectators during the first day of activity. Be careful though, on this point you have to count the 275,658 presences made through previews, given that the production toured France for 15 days to present the film to the public, casting in the room as the icing on the cake. If Guillaume Canet and Pathé can breathe a little, we have to see how the rumors behave in the coming weeks. Yes, the beginning is thunderous, but word of mouth is unfortunately quite calamitous, the fault of a disappointing cinematic result and above all not up to the 65 million that have been injected into the production.
However, the French blockbuster can count on the winter holidays that will begin for Zone A this weekend to try to bring as many people back to theaters as possible. Not forgetting that the film has a family aura that may appeal to children who want to discover the new live-action adventures of our Gallic duo, carried by guest-stars who can still influence this young audience. Otherwise, we are of course quite in agreement to see the extent of the cinematic disaster this film is, with uninteresting scenery, non-existent narration, actors often beside their pumps, struggles of hallucinating misery and a staging of great commonplace.
